- “With the recent release of the 2021 maternal health data by the CDC, it’s become alarmingly clear that the United States is trending in a dangerous direction for mothers and infants. Sadly, not only have the rates of maternal morbidity and mortality been sharply increasing over the past several years, but the US continues to have worse outcomes compared to other developed countries.
- The Commonwealth Fund: Health and Health Care for Women of Reproductive Age (Apr. 2022)
- Compares U.S. measures of health care access and outcomes to 11 other high-income countries.
- “U.S. women of reproductive age are significantly more likely to have problems paying their medical bills or to skip or delay needed care because of costs. Only one-quarter of U.S. women of reproductive age gave a high rating to the performance of their country’s health care system. Women of reproductive age in the U.S. are the most likely to skip or delay needed care because of costs, which stems from many women who lack health insurance – 10 million – as well as high copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles that many U.S. women enrolled in commercial health plans face when seeking care.”
