Driving New Opportunities of Research Collaboration
The partnership between University Hospitals and Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) drives new and enhanced opportunities to integrate research initiatives across organizations from basic to clinical and translational scientific studies. The more researchers and clinicians connect around specific clinical needs and collaborative scientific inquiries the greater their potential to advance and transform patient care. Initial research projects under the University Hospitals and NEOMED collaboration include hearing and neurodegenerative disease and aging research.
Current Collaborations
The University Hospitals-NEOMED Neurodegenerative Disease and Aging Research Center involves a collaborative research team engaged in the study of three of the most common age-related neurodegenerations: Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and glaucoma. The researchers aim to discover, develop, and validate new biomarkers and treatments for these conditions.
The University Hospitals-NEOMED Hearing Research Center at Northeast Ohio Medical University is one of the leading Auditory Neuroscience groups in the United States, with 10 laboratories studying auditory processing, to determine how the ear and brain work together for hearing and communication. Under the partnership, University Hospitals Ear, Nose & Throat Institute will expand the existing scope of study with its clinical research expertise to develop the potential for advances in patient care.
